9. Satsuki Kusakabe from My Neighbor Totoro
8. Chihiro Ogino/Sen from Spirited Away
7. Shizuku Tsukishima from Whisper of the Heart
6. Sophie Hatter from Howl’s Moving Castle
5. Rikako Muto from Ocean Waves
4. Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service
3. San from Princess Mononoke
2. Sheeta from Castle in the Sky
1. Nausicaä from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

Studio Ghibli has been praised for its female characters, and co-founder Toshio Suzuki has opined that Miyazaki has a mother complex, which leads him to base his young heroines on his mom.
