Studio Khara Kindly Asks Fans to Refrain from Making Evangelion Porn

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is almost out in Japanese theaters, and Studio Khara has one simple request: Please avoid making Evangelion porn. Khara knows fan art is going to be made for the next entry—heck, it’s been pouring out since 1995!—so they’re being proactive in ensuring that fans follow guidelines and do their best to avoid getting a copyright complaint issued against their work.

According to Khara, the guidelines have been put in place “for people wishing to enjoy creating fan works based on the Evangelion series, which our company [Khara] holds the copyright to.” It goes on to say that the rules were created so “fans can securely create fan art and other works,” and describes fairly standard rules such as it the fact that it’s okay to post art on personal social media accounts, but not for commercial use without the proper clearance from Khara.

One of the other key points is aimed at those who would prefer to illustrate some more lewd takes on the IP, though. Khara explicitly wants fans to refrain from “posting Evangelion fan work that are specifically for pornographic purposes.”

That doesn’t mean fans can’t get suggestive at all. There is some leeway, such as drawing characters as they enter plug-suits, share a bath, or other risqué situations similar to those that actually happen in the series. They just don’t want fans to take it too far, which, knowing fans like we do, is totally going to work.

So, please, if you can resist in any way, do not draw any Evangelion porn to celebrate the long-awaited release of the fourth and final film. And while you’re resisting, be sure to check out the latest trailer for the movie.
