Shunji Iwai Hopping on the Vampire Train

This news post sadly makes me realize just how long it’s been since I last thought about Shunji Iwai. I’m a big fan of his 2001 film All About Lily Chou-Chou, as well as some of his earlier work, though I never did see Hana and Alice.

Iwai’s next project is taking him down that deep and winding hole into the world of vampires; the sordid path frequently traveled. It apparently centers on a young man with a craving for blood and hooking up with suicidal women on the Internet to, yep, do that thing bloodsuckers do best.

The yet-untitled film begins shooting this May in Vancouver, and will be an English-language project starring an international cast that so far consists of Amanda Plummer and Yu Aoi. More info on this as it becomes available, and here’s hoping Iwai can cull something interesting and unique from the genre.
