Shigeru Miyamoto Guides (And Plays) in Nintendo Museum Video

The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, which was originally announced three years ago, is opening its doors on October 2. A preview video has been released before that happens, and Shigeru Miyamoto guides us through the museum. Miyamoto is one of the big names at Nintendo, being the creator of Mario, Zelda and more.

Here is the video, which is in Japanese with English subtitles.

Miyamoto gives a bit of a history lesson on Nintendo and shows people the Nintendo Museum’s various exhibits. People can see many Nintendo products, as well as how these products evolved over time. Some of the products are from the time before Nintendo was known for video games!

But it’s not just about looking at things. There are also interactive experiences, and you’ll be given digital coins to use. Miyamoto shows himself involved with some of these interactive parts, like the batting game. People also have the opportunity to play various Nintendo games . . . while usually ridiculously huge controllers. You’ll recognize the controllers as being from Nintendo, but the museum has increased their size so that more than one person will have to use the controller to get anything done. Miyamoto and another worker help each other out while playing Mario.

As you’d expect, the Nintendo Museum has its own café for people to eat. And it has its own store with exclusive merchandise.

“What did you think?” Miyamoto asks at the end of the video. “What I showed you today was just a glimpse of the Nintendo Museum. In addition to the product exhibits and the interactive experiences, you can also play Hanafuda even if you don’t know the rules, and we’ll host workshops where you can make your own Hanafuda cards.”

He continues, “We look forward to seeing you at the Nintendo Museum. These Toads are looking forward to seeing you too!”
