It’s a timeless video game showdown as Mario attempts to take down Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is coming to theaters this April. Things don’t go quite as planned for everyone’s favorite plumber, but maybe a little Cat Suit power-up can turn the tables? See if Donkey Kong is impressed and listen to Seth Rogen’s version of the character for the first time in the new clip below.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is scheduled to come out in America on April 7 and in Japan on April 28. It comes to us from Nintendo and Illumination, which is known for making such movies as Despicable Me and Minions.
In addition to Chris Pratt as Mario and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, the cast includes Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. If you grew up with Charles Martinet as the voice of Mario, he is supposed to be in the movie with a cameo performance.
The film’s directors are Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, and they’re working with Matthew Fogel’s script. The production has stressed that Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Super Mario Bros. and co-producer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is “front and center in the creation of this film.” Since original creators are often not given a voice in Hollywood adaptations, they clearly feel it’s important for people to know that Miyamoto is not being pushed aside or ignored.
Here is the announced cast for the Japanese dub: Mamoru Miyano plays Mario, Arisa Shida plays Peach, Tasuku Hatanaka plays Luigi, Kenta Miyake plays Bowser, and Tomokazu Seki plays Toad.
