Keishi Otomo’s pair of live-action Rurouni Kenshin film sequels—based on the manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki—are set to premiere in Japanese theaters later this year. Takeru Sato reprises his lead role as Himura Kenshin, and “the craziest enemy” arrives as the antagonist in the first sequel, Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Inferno (Kyoto Taika-hen).
The villain in question is none other than Makoto Shishio—played by Tatsuya Fujiwara—a former government assassin who is now looking to tear it down. The film makes its Japanese debut on August 1, and you can see about a minute of footage in the English-subtitled teaser below.
The second sequel, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends (Densetsu no Saigo-hen), premieres in Japan on September 13.
