Poster Offers a Peek at Live-Action Sonic the Hedgehog

sonicIs this how you imagined the silhouette of a real-life Sonic? Sega revealed the first teaser poster for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and it’s certainly something! What that something is is ultimately up to you, but the shadowy figure on display offers a decent idea of what to expect from the character design.

Ben Schwartz, AKA Parks and Recreation‘s Jean-Ralphio, is in the lead as the voice of Sonic, and the movie also stars James Marsden as Officer Tom Wachowski and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. See the first look at his design in the poster below, followed by a dynamic version from IGN.

According to executive producer Tim Miller, Sega wasn’t happy with their initial solution for Sonic’s eyes, but it would also be tough to pull off his traditional in-game look in a live-action/CG hybrid movie. We’ll have to wait to see what they came up with for that. Sonic also sports fur now, and his shoes are a hybrid design mixing previous styles with something more in line with what Sonic might wear today.

Director Jeff Fowler has big plans for depicting his speed on screen, and says the effects are already being added.

Hopefully we’ll see the full reveal of Sonic soon. Sonic the Hedgehog hits theaters on November 8, 2019.
