People Are Trying to Sell Rare Pokémon Oreos for Thousands

It’s one thing to take advantage of the scarcity of Pokémon cards, but Pokémon Oreos? Nabisco’s popular cookie recently launched a limited-edition run of cookies with Pokémon designs on the snacks themselves, featuring 16 monsters from the series, some of which are rare just like their in-game counterparts. Despite the fact that no one should be buying Nabisco products due to the ongoing employee strike, the cookies have been selling out, and some featuring Pokémon like Mew are already up for hundreds, and in some cases thousands, on eBay.

Naturally, Mew is the rarest of the designs, so resellers have hopped on these particular items in a big way. Some listings are up for a few dollars—and these are likely the ones that will actually sell—while some go for a couple hundred or so and others are aiming for $2,000 and more. Bidding recently ended for a Mew Oreo at a whopping $13,300, with 34 bidders duking it out for the opportunity to own… a crumbly cookie. In the case of that one, at least, proceeds went to charity.

Let’s not even get into the fact that Oreos apparently have a shelf life of less than a month. The coveted Mew Oreo isn’t meant to be eaten, it’s meant to sit on a shelf until it gradually disintegrates!

In addition to Mew, Pokémon Oreo designs include Bulbasaur, Charmander, Cyndaquil, Dratini, Grookey, Jigglypuff, Lapras, Pancham, Pikachu, Piplup, Rowlett, Sableye, Sandshrew, Snivy, and Squirtle.
