The second Sword Art Online Progressive movie recently made its #1 debut in Japan, but we already know what to look forward to next. Well, kind of. We know that there’s something to look forward to next, and that something just so happens to be a new original Sword Art Online anime film.
Details are light, but a teaser trailer launched along with the promise of more details in the future.
This is all fittingly timed, since the fictional Sword Art Online game kicked off its service within the universe of Reki Kawahara’s series on November 6, 2022.
The latest theatrical Sword Art Online adventure to hit the big screen was the recently-released Scherzo of Deep Night, the second of two Sword Art Online Progressive features. Here’s how Yen Press sums up the story of this portion of Reki Kawahara’s spinoff novel series:
It’s been just two months since they were trapped in the game of death that is Sword Art Online, and Kirito and Asuna continue their struggle at the vanguard of progress through the game. The fifth floor of Aincrad is a mazelike ruin, and the two dare to take pleasure in raiding it for the treasure it contains. Upon returning to the fourth floor, it’s time to do some questing on behalf of the Elf Lord Yofilis–but here begins Asuna’s discontent, for in doing so they will have to face her least favorite monster ever…
