Mamoru Oshii’s Sky Crawlers Awarded at Sitges

Actually, that’s just one of two things that makes the Ghost in the Shell director’s latest animated film a unique feature at this year’s Sitges Film Fest. The other is the fact that, unlike its animated brothers Genius Party, Freedom and Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone,Sky Crawlers was the only anime screened in the festival’s main “Official Fantastic” program.

Fresh off earning the Future Film Festival Digital Award at the Venice Film Festival last month, Sky Crawlers saw even greater success at Sitges, reeling in the Jose Luis Guarner Critic Award, Best Original Soundtrack for Kenji Kawai’s score, and a prize from the Carnet Jove Jury for Best Motion Picture for a Youth Audience.

You can catch the film when Sony Pictures brings it to home video in the US, among other regions.
