Lost American Saint Seiya Live-Action Pilot Rediscovered

Saint Seiya, or Knights of the Zodiac by Masami Kurumada, is a popular manga series that has received multiple adaptations. In 2023, there was a live-action Knights of the Zodiac, but this is not the first time the franchise has used live-action. In fact, in the 90s there was an American attempt at a Saint Seiya live-action series titled StarStorm, and its long-lost pilot episode has been found and uploaded online.

The discovery was made by Ray Mona, who also found an American Saint Seiya cartoon pilot that had been lost, as well as an American Sailor Moon pilot.

First Mona put up a video explaining about StarStorm and how she found the pilot episode.

Then here is the episode itself and its take on Saint Seiya. It has the nostalgic 90s feel to it.

StarStorm was produced by Renaissance Atlantic, which also produced the Power Rangers, and it has some of the same feel. However, unlike the Power Rangers, StarStorm never got very far, and this is the first time many people have been able to see it.

VIZ Media publishes the original manga by Kurumada, and gave this description for the first volume:

Saint Seiya Plot

In Greek mythology, Athena, the daughter of Zeus, was born in full armor. By birthright the goddess of battle, she did not believe in conquest, and only fought defensive wars. Her battles with bloodthirsty gods and giants shook the very earth and seemed to last forever. On the battlefield, there were a group of youths that always surrounded and protected the goddess: the Knights of Athena! Flash forward to modern-day Greece: two Japanese tourists are shocked to see a mansized meteorite crash to the earth before them. It turns out to be young Seiya. Seiya must train harder than ever if he is to survive his match with the brutal Cassios! Whoever wins will receive the greatest prize known to man: the incredibly powerful Pegasus Cloth!
