Back in November, demolition work began for Kyoto Animation Studio 1, which was at the center of the devastating arson attack that took place on July 18, 2019. Now, according to the NHK, demolition officially wrapped up on April 28.

The attack ended up taking the lives of 36 of the 70 Kyoto Animation employees working in the building at the time, injuring many others in the process. These include director Yasuhiro Takemoto (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya), renowned animator Yoshiji Kigami, and many more victims who put out brilliant work at the studio.

The photo below shows the now-flattened area where the studio previously stood.

As for what will be done with the site, they have yet to come to a decision. While family members and fans would like a memorial in the building’s place, residents want to keep from drawing too much more attention to the area. We’ll have to wait and see what happens to the location in the future.
