kaina of the great snow sea

An anime film was previously announced for the Kaina of the Great Snow Sea TV anime, locking in a Japanese opening date of October 13. Well ahead of that, however, will be an English subtitled premiere for Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: Star Sage at the Annecy International Animation Festival on June 16.

Producer and Polygon Pictures president Shuzo Shiota will be on hand at the screening for a special talk, and the screening itself will be held at the Bonlieu Grande Salle at 8:30 PM CET on June 16.

Here’s the Japanese poster:

Hiroaki Ando (ListenersAjin: Demi-Human) directed the Kaina of the Great Snow Sea anime, with Sadayuki Murai (Natsume Yujin-cho) on series composition and Kohta Yamamoto handling music for the Polygon Pictures production. Cast members include Yoshimasa Hosoya as Kaina, Rie Takahashi as Liliha, Ayumu Murase as Yaona, Maaya Sakamoto as Amerote and more.

Crunchyroll streamed the TV anime as part of its Winter 2023 lineup and describes it like so:

In another world where the Snow Sea continues to grow wider… The people were barely surviving atop the Canopy, which spreads out from giant trees called orbital spire trees.

When Kaina, a boy from the Canopy, meets Ririha, a princess from the Snow Sea, their journey to change a world heading for destruction begins.

Crunchyroll also plans to release the anime film.
