Kagurabachi Manga Takes Week Off Due to Author’s ‘Sudden Illness’

The Kagurabachi manga is taking an unplanned break, so it will be missing from the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump for a week. The announcement came through the manga’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, which cited author Takeru Hokazono’s “sudden illness” as the reason for the break.

The break kicks off with this year’s 29th issue of the magazine, which means we’ll be seeing Kagurabachi again as soon as the 30th issue hits stands in Japan on June 23. For those concerned, Hokazono apologized for worrying fans and added that they are “currently writing energetically.”

Kagurabachi kicked off in the pages of Jump in September 2023, and the eighth collected volume is due out in Japan on July 4. VIZ Media and MANGA Plus publish the manga in English, with the latter summing up the story like so:

Young Chihiro spends his days training under his famous swordsmith father. One day he hopes to become a great sword-maker himself. The goofy father and the serious son–they thought these days would last forever. But suddenly, tragedy strikes. A dark day soaked in blood. Chihiro and his blade now live only for revenge. Epic sword battle action!
