Japanese Macross Delta DVD/Blu-ray Listed With English Subtitles

The spring anime season is underway, but there’s one conspicuous absence on the usual simulcasting sites.

That’s one Macross Delta, the newest addition to the franchise that’s been plagued with rights difficulties in America for years.

But there’s a smaller glimmer of hope for western Macross fans who want to take in the new series legally in English. The Macross Delta home videos have been listed for pre-order on Amazon, and eagle-eyed Macross maniac Gwyn Campbell spotted a small but key detail: both the DVD and Blu-ray discs will include English subtitles.

Now, a couple caveats: it’s entirely possible this is a mistake on the part of either Amazon or Bandai Visual, who are releasing the discs. And, like most Japanese releases, these puppies are not cheap: a single volume of the Blu-ray is ¥8,424 (that’s about $80).

Still, it looks like Macross fans willing to pony up the dough may just get an subtitle surprise. The first disc is out July 22.
