Now Ingress is getting an anime series, and we’ve got some deets, including cast, crew and story.
Ingress will be directed by Yuhei Sakuragi (Relative Worlds) with scripts from Soki and Tora Tsukishima. Character designs will be handled by Takeshi Honda (Blue Submarine No. 6).
The main cast includes:
- Yoshiki Nakajima as Makoto
- Reina Ueda as Sarah
- Shigeo Kiyama as Jack
- Megumi Ogata as Artificial Intelligence ADA
Here’s the official story synopsis:
Since he was little, Makoto had a strange power which enabled him to read the memories of objects he touched.
Hiding his uncontrollable power, he works as a special agent in the police force. One day, while investigating an explosion at a laboratory that researches a unknown substance called “XM”, he sees a mysterious memory.
The memory was from Sarah’s ring, who was the sole survivor of the accident.
It was a sight of a person being swallowed into a red light and disappearing.
Makoto becomes embroiled in a massive conspiracy.
The battle for “XM”, a material that could affect human mind, starts now.
In Japan, Ingress will air on Fuji TV on a new block called +Ultra. The rest of the world will be able to chill to it on Netflix. The series starts in October. The AR game itself is set to get a massive update called Ingress Prime at the same time.
“The anime peers into the ‘Ingress’ universe and allows viewers to see a part of that universe that is uniquely expressed,” Variety quotes Niantic boss John Hanke as saying.
