In Japan, You Can Hire a Handsome Butler to Go Clothes Shopping With You

You might not be able to have your own Sebastian Michaelis, the butler from Black Butler, but Japan is full of butler cafés so that customers can enjoy a little fantasy. But while many otaku are aware of maid cafés and butler cafés, did you know there are also services where a handsome man dressed as a butler will go clothes shopping with you?

The butler café Swallowtail has teamed up with apparel brand Axes Femme for this. The butler shopping service is referred to as “Secret Shopping.” Rather than being at the café, you would meet up with your butler at one of the Axes Femme retail stores. The fantasy is supposed to be that you live in a mansion and the giant store consists of all of your clothing. Of course you can’t keep track of it all, so that’s why your faithful butler is here to help you pick out what to wear.

Sessions last a little over an hour, and during that time the butler will watch you try on outfits and let you know which ones look best on you. Unlike many a bored boyfriend or husband dragged along on a clothes shopping trip, he is here to be interested and help you. They also understand that different types of outfits will work for different events, so they can help you pin down what’s best depending on what you’re looking for.

While it’s mainly concentrated on clothes shopping, the butlers can also offer you refreshments, like tea and finger food.

The service costs 20,000 yen (which is approximately $148). The Secret Shopping sessions began in Tokyo, but proved popular enough that this summer they were brought to Osaka as well.

Is this a service you’d be interested in having for your next time clothes shopping?
