Get $100 of Japanese Games for $10 with Humble Bundle

There are some exciting things going on these days with indie PC games in the West, but due to the greater emphasis on developing for consoles in Japan, it can be difficult to get one’s fix of Japanese games this way. For the next five days though, Humble Bundle has you covered with a pay-what-you-want, for-charity sale on Japanese indie games.

Humble Bundle’s pay scheme may be a bit confusing to newcomers, so listen up:

• For a minimum of $1, you get the fan service-laden sprite fighter Vanguard Princess (includes DLC packs), the tokusatsu-themed shmup Supercharged Robot VULKAISER, and the turn-based JRPG 99 Spirits: Special Edition.

• If you put down at least $7.40, you also get upbeat Zelda-clone Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure, the retro JRPG The Sacred Tears TRUE, and the competitive 3D undersea shooter, Neo Aquarium – The King of Crustaceans –.

• If you pay $10 or more, you get all of the above games, plus the hack-and-slash JRPG Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1.

Keep in mind though that proceeds are going to charity (Charity: Water and DirectRelief, you get to choose how much goes where) so anyone with cash to spare is encouraged to pay more. Also know that these are all delivered as Steam keys, so despite buying elsewhere, you can still track your hours for these games, field friend requests, and the like using Valve’s popular client. If you don’t like Steam, some of them are also available DRM-free, and Supercharged Robot VULKAISER is even available for Linux.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, be sure to check out all the video embeds above and below for a general idea of what these games are like. They are enjoyably off the beaten path as PC games go, but Neo Aquarium in particular sticks out for its general weirdness (which reminds us of Seaman on Dreamcast). Remember that the sale only last for five more days, so make your decisions quickly, and head here to cash out.

While you’re there, you might also want to check out their store to see what else is on sale. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth2: Sisters Generation, the sequel to the Neptunia game offered above is on sale for the next couple days. If you’ve been meaning to pre-order Mighty No. 9 and didn’t get around to it yet, now you can support charity in the process by clicking here.
