Gainax President Arrested for Alleged Indecent Assault of Teenager

There was a time during which anime studio Gainax was really on top, producing classics ranging from Gunbuster to Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Now the company’s current president, Tomohiro Maki, has been arrested on alleged “semi-forced” indecent assault charges against a woman in her late teens.

The arrest of the 50-year-old Maki occurred on December 5. According to investigators, the victim was an aspiring voice actress between the age of 15 and 19, with whom Maki is said to have engaged in indecent acts on four separate occasions.

The alleged incidents took place between February 6 and 23, 2019, and they include Maki taking nude photographs as “practice” for when the actress becomes famous. He also allegedly touched her legs, saying it was good to massage them because they “look swollen.”

According to reports, the incidents occurred at an apartment that had been contracted by a voice acting school to act as a women’s dormitory. The teen lodged a complaint with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police back in February, and while Maki admitted to taking the photos, he claims he only did so because the teen requested it.

Here’s a video of Maki being taken into custody:
