Evangelion Movie Breaks Opening Day Records at IMAX

Evangelion 3.0+1.0 Release Delayed by COVID-19 (Again)

Normally opening a movie on a Monday is not a good business move. But opening on a Monday did not hurt Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time at all. In fact, IMAX broke records for best opening day in Japan. So far the movie has made about $7.6 million, with IMAX taking a cut of $740,000.

Deadline, which covered the story, noted that these numbers were high even in the face of a pandemic and local curfews. The movie has been playing in 466 theaters in Japan and many showings have been sold out. Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time is meant to finish the franchise.
