Comic Market is one of the biggest otaku events in the world, but this year’s Comiket 98—which was originally planned for May 2-5 during Japan’s Golden Week—won’t be happening. This cancellation came about as another attempt to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), marking an unfortunate first for the event.
The catalog for Comiket 98 has already been printed and hits stores on April 11, so Comiket urges people to show their support and buy the guide. This event usually attracts over 500,000 attendees, and its cancellation leaves a serious hole in the world of otaku living in and visiting Japan.
Winter Comiket is still on the docket in the future, but we’ll have to wait for further details.
