Chihayafuru Illustration for Canceled Event ReleasedChihayafuru fans in Japan faced disappointment this month when an event celebrating the manga and anime, set for June 21, was canceled due to you-know-what.

However, fans in Japan and around the world had a bit of solace today in the form of a new illustration from Kunihiko Hamada, the character designer for the anime series.

The illustration, which was originally created for the event, now features the caption “mata aeru hi made,” or, “until the day we can meet again.”

It can be downloaded in high resolution from the series’ official website.

The third season of Chihayafuru ran from October 2019 to March 2020. Here’s how Crunchyroll describes the series:

Chihaya Ayase has spent most of her life supporting her sister’s model career. When she meets a boy named Arata Wataya, he thinks Chihaya has potential to become a great karuta player. As Chihaya dreams of becoming Japan’s best karuta player, she is soon separated from her karuta playing friends. Now in high school, Chihaya still plays karuta in the hope that she will one day meet her friends again.
