cardcaptor sakura: the movie

Based on the work of the inimitable group known as CLAMP, Cardcaptor Sakura is a series that’s just as beautiful today as it was over two decades ago. Following the manga’s previous anniversary, it’s now the anime film’s turn to celebrate 25 years, and one of the ways it’s doing so is with special revival screenings in Japan.

Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie originally opened in Japan on August 21, 1999. Thus, the revival screenings will weave their spell throughout Japan starting on August 9, 2024. Check out a nostalgic preview hyping the event below.

There’s also a new visual:

Those who attend screenings in the first week, from August 9-15, will get a B5 illustration card featuring the art of CLAMP. There are two card types available, both pictured below, which will be given out at random.

From August 16, theatergoers will receive one of two miniature colored paper illustrations. You can see the options below.

There’s no word yet whether or not fans outside of Japan can look forward to similar screenings in the future. In the meantime, you can stream the film on Crunchyroll.
