It’s always interesting to see how your favorite manga authors draw totally unrelated characters, especially when those characters are as iconic as Disney mascot Mickey Mouse. Thanks to Kodansha’s recent Spring Manga Festival promotion that’s exactly what we get to see, with Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama leading the charge.
As you might have imagined, Isayama’s unique take on Mickey has him decked out like a determined yet adorable member of the Survey Corps, complete with a giant fork and spoon.
Next up is Air Gear and Tenjho Tenge creator Oh! Great, who drew various Mickeys working together to build a massive Mickey Mecha. No doubt for the forces of good, of course.
For a more charmingly quaint image, look no further than Saint Young Men and Arakawa Under the Bridge artist Hikaru Nakamura.
Knights of Sidonia and Blame! author Tsutomu Nihei gave his Mickey a pretty intense spin.
Rounding things out with some serious cuteness is Chihayafuru creator Yuki Suetsugu, who went with a more “inspired by Mickey” angle.
All of the above illustrations are being given away in limited quantities (and at random) to customers who purchase Kodansha manga during the Spring Manga Festival promotion. If you happen to be in Japan between now and April 19, here’s a list of participating bookstores. Those in Akihabara might want to try Animate, Gamers, or Melon Books, among others.
