Attack on Titan Creator and Eren VA Team Up for One-Shot Manga

Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama and Yuki Kaji, the voice of main character Eren in the Attack on Titan anime, are working together on a one-shot manga. And before you get your hopes up, no, it has nothing to do with Attack on Titan. Instead, it’s related to Kaji’s project “Soyogi Fractal,” and is described as a “spinoff.”

The project, which is observing twenty years since Kaji began professionally voice acting, is all about a character named Soyogi Soyogi. The project involves a voice synthesis software, using Kaji’s own voice.

Kaji is penning the tale, and Isayama is taking care of storyboards. Another person will be the artist for the project, using Isayama’s drafted storyboards to guide their artwork.

If you’re curious, this website is holding auditions for the artist, and people have until the end of the month to try out. You can even see some of Isayama’s storyboards. Whoever ends up being chosen, the one-shot manga is slated to be released this summer in the pages of Weekly Shonen Magazine and Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.

Kodansha publishes the Attack on Titan manga, and gave this description for its plot:

A century ago, the grotesque giants known as Titans appeared and consumed all but a few thousand humans. The survivors took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren yearns to explore the world beyond Wall Maria. But what began as a childish dream will become an all-too-real nightmare when the Titans return and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction…

Attack on Titan is the award-winning and New York Times-bestselling series that is the manga hit of the decade! Spawning the monster hit anime TV series of the same name, Attack on Titan has become a pop culture sensation.
