Anime cookbook app hits smartphones

Have you ever wished you could eat food from, like, a real anime? Put that pocky away, because there’s a new cooking app for iPhone and Android phones that’s set to make your anime cooking dreams come true.

Released just this past week, the free app is called Bistro Animeshi, and is part of a long line of cooking apps put out by Zappallas, Inc. which allow users to post photos of their completed dishes to social media sites. Bistro Animeshi is itself a long-running blog with anime-related recipes.

Built-in to the app are a handful of recipes themed after a number of Hayao Miyazaki’s directorial works. Does just the thought of eating the spaghetti and meatballs from the restaurant scene in The Castle of Cagliostro make your mouth water? What about “Ponyo’s Ham & Ramen”? “Castle in the Sky’s Pazu minestrone”?

Available for a dollar each are a handful of recipe packs focusing on other popular anime properties, including One Piece and Naruto. Each pack offers around 5 new recipes, including favorites like “Naruto’s Ichiraku miso ramen,” and “Rurouni Kenshin beef hot-pot.”

Bistro Animeshi is available for free on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
