Star Wars Resistance, an upcoming Star Wars TV series, will be animated at Polygon Pictures, the studio behind Ajin, the recent CG Godzilla films and more.
Polygon previously contributed animation to Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Star Wars Resistance, which is said to have an “anime-inspired style,” takes place before The Force Awakens, and follows a pilot named Kazuda Xiono “recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order.”
The series will feature “appearances by established characters including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma.”
The official press release quotes Resistance director Dave Filoni as saying:
The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.
The series premieres on the Disney Channel this fall in the US.
Other Polygon credits include Blame! and Knights of Sidonia.
