act-age Artist Gets New Series with Madan no Ichi

Shiro Usazaki’s career was off to a promising start with her working as an illustrator for the popular manga act-age. However, act-age’s author Tatsuya Matsuki got caught in 2020 committing sexual assaults against underage girls, and this led to the cancellation of the series. Usazaki said she agreed with the cancellation given the circumstances, but it also left her without a job through no fault of her own. While she did get a bit of work thrown her way, it hasn’t been a series like act-age. Now it’s been announced that she’s finally working on a new series, and the writer is already a pro. This time she’s teamed up with writer Osamu Nishi, the mangaka for Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. Their new manga series is called Madan no Ichi.

Madan no Ichi debuts in Weekly Shonen Jump’s September 9 issue, where it will grace the cover and offer a lengthy 54-page first chapter. As you probably already guessed, Nishi is handling the writing while Usazaki will work on the art.

Usazaki shared the news on social media, saying it’s a fun manga.

There’s no a whole lot of info on Madan no Ichi yet, but we’re told it’s a “magical hunting fantasy.”

Kodansha publishes Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun and gave this description for it:

Hopeless pushover Iruma Suzuki has found himself in a devil of a predicament… His trashy parents have sold off his soul, and he now has to live and attend school in the Netherworld. But with his unique survival skills and doting demon grandfather’s support, Iruma will surely make it through this hellish experience. He’ll just need to subjugate rival classmates, summon familiars, and more, all while never revealing that he’s human… Easy as aleph, bet, gimel, right?

Best of luck to Usazaki and Nishi on Madan no Ichi!
