Everyone’s getting hype for the new Star Wars film, and that includes rice planters in Aomori Prefecture, who’ve planted this summer’s rice crop to create a giant Star Wars illustration.
Villagers from Inakadate planted 11 different kinds of rice to achieve the different colors in the design, spelling out the Japanese title of the new film, Fosu no Kakusei, along with C-3PO, R2-D2 and that rolling droid everybody’s talkin’ about.
The project, which also includes a similar “illustration” from the classic film Gone with the Wind, was created to bring tourism to the city.
It’s not just for show, though: the rice will be harvested in October. And who knows: maybe someone will eat some Star Wars rice while watching Star Wars?
