If Evangelion is an infinite money-making merchandising machine, then popular characters Rei Ayanami and Asuka Langley are its endlessly profitable power generators, never giving up, never stopping, always giving more and more in unlikely and surprising ways. And hey, now they have their own clothing collections.
The Rei Ayanami and Asuka Shikinami Langley Collections are part of a long line of items sold by Radio Eva, a company started in 2008 to sell high quality branded goods based officially on Eva. Both collections offer sweatshirts, t-shirts, bracelets and other casual-wear based on their respective characters.
Asuka, for example, gets a red “Longinus” sweatshirt, while Rei’s collection offers a lime green version instead. Asuka’s collection has a pair of shirts with her puppet from the movie version of 2.0 on the breast, while Rei has a hoodie with a rhinestone version of the Nerv logo. That’s pretty hot.
As is often the case when buying clothes from a Japanese retailer, however, it’s gonna cost you. That Longinus sweatshirt/hoody is ¥7,020 with tax (a little over $70), a Asuka mosaic t-shirt is ¥4,800 ($51) and one of those Oxford shirts is ¥13,500 ($138). Pricey!
