At New York Comic Con over the weekend, Crunchyroll took the opportunity to share an English subbed trailer of ZENSHU, an upcoming original anime from famed studio MAPPA.

ZENSHU Trailer

ZENSHU is scheduled to start in January, and it will be streamed by Crunchyroll.

The trailer tells us about more cast members: Romi Park plays Justice, Manaka Iwami plays Destiny Heartwarming, Kentaro Tone plays Chingosman, Masashi Yamane plays Ganger, Katsuhisa Hoki plays Capitan, and Sayaka Ohara plays Admiral.

It had previously been revealed that Anna Nagase plays Natsuko Hirose, Kazuki Ura plays Luke Braveheart, Rie Kugimiya plays Unio, Minori Suzuki plays Memmeln, Akio Suyama plays QJ.

Mitsue Yamasaki of Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is helming the project as director, while the scripts are being penned by Kimiko Ueno of Astro Note. Yamasaki and Ueno, plus MAPPA itself, are all recognized together for the original idea. The person handling the task of assistant director is Sumie Noro, who directed Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence. The music is being composed by Yukari Hashimoto, who is known for working on Komi Can’t Communicate.

ZENSHU isn’t based on a manga, light novel or video game, like many other anime, but MAPPA did release a description for its plot. Here’s what MAPPA said:

ZENSHU Plot

After graduating from high school, Natsuko Hirose starts her career as an animator. Her talent quickly flourishes, and she makes her debut as a director in no time. Her first anime becomes a massive hit, sparking a social phenomenon and earning her recognition as an up-and-coming genius director. Her next project is set to be a romantic comedy movie themed around first love! However, having never been in love herself, Natsuko struggles to understand the concept of first love, and as a result, she’s unable to create the storyboard, causing the movie production to come to a standstill.
