Sengoku Youko’s third and last cours will be here October 9, and ahead of this a “story promotional video” dropped. In it you can hear the insert song “Sekidei” (translated as “Red Mud”) being performed by MindaRyn, as well as the ending theme song “Banri Ikkū” being performed by Rainy. “Banri Ikkū” is a term about keeping up challenging work in order to meet an objective, and it comes from the famous Japanese tome Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi.

Sengoku Youko is being made at WHITE FOX, with Masahiro Aizawa helming the project as director. Aizawa has a long history of jobs in various anime titles, like animation director and key animator. The person penning and handling the scripts is Jukki Hanada, who is known for working on Steins;Gate. Credit for character design goes to Yousuke Okuda of In the Heart of Kunoichi Tsubaki.
The original Sengoku Youko manga by Satoshi Mizukami is being published in America by TOKYOPOP, which gave this description for the plot:
Sengoku Youko Plot
The world is divided into two factions: humans and monsters called katawara. Despite being a katawara, Tama loves humans and vows to protect them from evil, even if it means fighting her own kind. Her brother Jinka, however, hates humans, despite mostly being one. The siblings are joined by a cowardly swordsman named Shinsuke, who wants to learn how to become strong.
The manga began in the pages of Monthly Comic Blade magazine back in 2007. Nine years later, in 2016, the series concluded. Creator Mizukami is also the mangaka behind Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and Planet With.
There’s also a stage play version, Sengoku Youko The Stage: World Reform Siblings Arc (or Sengoku Youko The Stage Yo Naoshi Kyōdai-hen in the original Japanese).
