Another compilation film is on the way for the Gintama series. This time the neverending 20th anniversary celebration will continue with a theatrical take on the Kintama Arc. The third film in the Gintama On Theater project—which aims to release compilation films based on popular episodes of the series adapting Hideaki Sorachi’s manga—will open in Japan this fall.

The first film in the series was Gintama on Theater 2D Baragaki-hen, which is based on the Thorny Arc (Baragaki-hen) and opened in November 2023. A compilation film based on the Courtesan of a Nation Arc (Ikkoku Keisei-hen) followed on June 21, 2024. The third film was announced a day later during a special stage greeting event at the Shinjuku Wald 9 theater in Tokyo.

The event had four voice cast members in attendance, including Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki), Daisuke Sakaguchi (Shinpachi), Rie Kugimiya (Kagura) and Yuki Ono (Shigeshige).

The Kintama Arc originally made its way to the anime in October 2012 through episodes 253-256. More details on the theatrical version will be announced at a later date.

Crunchyroll streams the Gintama anime and describes it:

In a world where aliens have invaded Edo Period Japan, skyscrapers, trains and motor bikes have replaced the simple life of Earth inhabitants. One man however, still carries the soul of a samurai, Gintoki Sakata, otherwise known as Yorozuya Gin-san. As reckless as he is, Gintoki carries his own resolve and is ready to take on any challenge with his fellow companions.
