The Oshi no Ko anime adaptation dominated the past year, from the anime itself to song charts and Google searches. Now, in a practically inevitable move, the series is going the live-action route in the form of a TV series and film. Amazon and Toei teamed up to announce the projects, with the film heading to theaters and the series set for a winter 2024 premiere around the world via Amazon Prime Video.
You can see the cast in costume in the above image, including, from left to right on the top row:
- Nagisa Saito (former =LOVE member) as Ruby
- Asuka Saito (former Nogizaka46 member) as Ai
- Kaito Sakurai (Blue Spring Ride) as Aqua
And the bottom row, also from left to right:
- Nanoka Hara (Suzume in Suzume) as Kana Arima
- Mizuki Kayashima (Saiko no Kyoshi: 1-nen-go) as Akane Kurokawa
- ano (Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction) as Memcho
This is looking to be another big year for Oshi no Ko, because season 2 is also lined up for 2024.
Daisuke Hiramaki directed the Oshi no Ko anime, with animation production by Doga Kobo. Manga Plus publishes the English version of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari’s manga digitally and describes it like so:
“In the world of showbiz, lies are weapons.” Goro works as an OB-GYN in the countryside, a life far removed from the entertainment industry. Meanwhile, his favorite idol, Ai Hoshino, has begun her climb to stardom. The two meet in the “worst possible way,” setting the gears of fate in motion! The amazing Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari team up to depict the world of showbiz from a completely new perspective in this shocking series!
