Hayao Miyazaki’s The Boy and the Heron just became the first anime to win a Golden Globe, and now an anime has won an Astra TV Award for the first time. Can you guess which one? It was Attack on Titan, which took home the award for Best Streaming Animated Series or TV Movie. Looking at the other nominees in the category, it competed against My Hero Academia, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Animaniacs, Harley Quinn, and Central Park.
The Astra Awards are put on by the Hollywood Creative Alliance. HCA explained that, “A nominating committee of 27 members selected this year’s nominees. All Television Branch members were invited to vote for the winners.”
Attack on Titan is one of the most successful anime series ever, and it recently wrapped up. Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 debuted in November, and its English dub was released over the weekend on Adult Swim and Toonami.
Kodansha Comics USA publishes the original manga by Hajime Isayama, and gave this description for the series:
A century ago, the grotesque giants known as Titans appeared and consumed all but a few thousand humans. The survivors took refuge behind giant walls. Today, the threat of the Titans is a distant memory, and a boy named Eren yearns to explore the world beyond Wall Maria. But what began as a childish dream will become an all-too-real nightmare when the Titans return and humanity is once again on the brink of extinction…
Attack on Titan is the award-winning and New York Times-bestselling series that is the manga hit of the decade! Spawning the monster hit anime TV series of the same name, Attack on Titan has become a pop culture sensation.
What do you think of Attack on Titan winning, and of anime starting to win more awards in general?
