Hollywood actor Michael B. Jordan has been vocal about his love of anime and how it’s influenced the movie Creed III, which he both directed and stars in. While the movie has already played in American theaters, it still doesn’t hit Japanese theaters until May 26. Titled Creed Kako no Gyakushū (translated as Creed: Revenge from the Past) for its Japanese audience, it also offers a little something extra: its own short anime at the end.
Jordan wrote on his Instagram account in both Japanese and English:
“Hi Japan! We made a special anime as a surprise for Japanese fans that will play at the end of the film. Creed 3 opens in theaters in Japan next weekend – get your tickets now to see what it’s all about!”
The anime is being made at TMS Entertainment, with Yo Moriyama helming the project as the director. It’s written by both Katsuhiko Manabe and Kensaku Kojima. The connection? This is the director and writers for Megalobox and Megalobox 2: Nomad, an anime about boxing. In fact, Jordan said that Megalobox was one of his anime influences for Creed III.
Megalobox is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, which gave this description for its plot:
“A desolate land stretches out from the city of poverty. A motorcycle speeds recklessly, blowing clouds of sand and dust. The rider is the protagonist of this story – he has neither a name nor a past.
