This past weekend’s Academy Awards may have snubbed anime again, but there are other award ceremonies that honor anime and manga. The Magademy Award, which comes to us from BookLive, revealed their winners today.
While there are categories of Best lead male actor, Best lead female actor, Best supporting male actor and Best supporting female actor, we’re not talking about actual actors here. Instead, manga characters are treated as if they’re actors.
With that said, the award for Best lead male actor was given to Dai Miyamoto, the star of the Blue Giant Explorer manga by Shinichi Ishizuka.
The award for Best lead female actor went to Inori Yuitsuka, the star of the manga Medalist by Tsurumaikada.
Moving on to supporting “actors,” the award for Best supporting male actor was nabbed by Chifuyu Matsuno from Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui.
The award for Best supporting female actor, meanwhile, went to Ai Haibara from the long-running Detective Conan manga series (a.k.a Case Closed) by Gosho Aoyama.
There is also an award for Best newcomer, and this went to Rudo from Gachiakuta by Kei Urana.
The final category was Special jury award. Chiikawa from Chiikawa by Nagano took this one home.
The jury deciding these awards consisted of nine people. One was comedian Hanako, who is a fan of manga, and the others were all bookstore workers from five different chain stores.
The Magademy Award is still in its infancy, as last year was its debut. In 2022, the winners were Totonō Kunō from Do not say mystery by Yumi Tamura, Yona from Yona of the Dawn by Mizuho Kusanagi, Manjirō Sano from Tokyo Revengers by Ken Wakui, Shinobu Wakamiya from Chihayafuru by Yuki Suetsugu, and Guts from Berserk by Kentarou Miura.
Congrats to all the winners, especially Tokyo Revengers for winning two years in a row!
