Skip Beat! Manga Takes Month Off Due to Author’s Illness

skip beat!

Following up on the post about the Battle Angel Alita manga taking a break, another series is going on hiatus for different reasons. As announced in this year’s 22nd issue of Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine, the Skip Beat! manga is going on another month-long break as a result of author Yoshiki Nakamura’s illness.

The Skip Beat! manga just runs once a month in Hana to Yume, which is published twice a month. In a note to readers, Nakamura explained that she recently had surgery.

The series first launched in the magazine back in 2002, and has been collected in 48 volumes so far. VIZ Media is almost caught up, with the 47th volume on the way on November 1, and describes the series below:

Kyoko knows she’s not plain and uninteresting, no matter what Sho says. With the help of a little makeover, Kyoko’s ready to exact her revenge. But first she needs to land an audition, and she sets her sights on the agency where Sho’s lead rival works. Her persistence pays off, but her broken heart turns out to be a disadvantage. Kyoko has lost the will to love anybody, let alone fans she’s never met. Can the agency see past this problem to Kyoko’s true star potential?
