If you enjoyed summer’s Tokyo Mew Mew New anime, you’ll be delighted to learn that more is on the way. The official accounts came through with news that the anime is set to return for a second season, with the broadcast currently lined up for an April 2023 premiere.
Here’s how the announcement went down:
Serving as the 20th anniversary project for the series, Tokyo Mew Mew New is being directed by Takahiro Natori (Cannon Busters), with Yuka Yamada (Black Butler) on series composition and Satoshi Ishino (Date A Live) handling character designs at Yumeta Company x Graphinica.
HIDIVE streams the new anime, and Kodansha Comics publishes the original Tokyo Mew Mew manga in English and describes it as such:
On her first date with the cutest boy in school, Ichigo is exposed to a mysterious ray that meshes her DNA with that of the endangered Iriomote wildcat. She soon discovers that she has developed superhuman abilities and enhanced agility. Her new powers are put to the test when she leads a team with four other girls, each endowed with special abilities of their own. Together, they must now protect the Earth from an alien menace known as Deep Blue.
