In BL Metamorphosis, the main characters bond over their love of BL, and they have a special place in their heart for their manga series Kimi no Koto dake Miteitai (translated as I Only Want to Keep Looking at You). I Only Want to Keep Looking at You isn’t a real series, but now it’s getting a real adaptation.
Hulu Japan has revealed that the adaptation will be live-action, consist of four episodes, and start streaming on June 17. A minute-long trailer has also dropped for it.
It’s good timing, too, because BL Metamorphosis is getting a live-action movie adaptation, and it will hit the big screen the same day this limited series will begin streaming. A person could potentially see the movie in theaters and then get something a little extra streaming at home.
Yūki Kura has been cast as Yūma Minase, and Rintarō Mizusawa has been cast as Sakura Asakura, the two leads. It’s being directed by Shunsuke Kariyama, who is the same director behind the live-action movie BL Metamorphosis. Scriptwriting has been tasked to Katamari Mizukawa, who is a comedian.
The BL Metamorphosis manga is published in English by Seven Seas, and they gave this description of its first volume:
“Ichinoi, a 75-year-old woman living a peaceful life, unwittingly buys a Boy’s Love manga one day…and is fascinated by what she finds inside. When she returns to the bookstore to buy the next volume, the high school girl working there–Urara, a seasoned BL fan–notices a budding fangirl when she sees one. When Urara offers to help Ichinoi explore this whole new world of fiction, the two dive into BL fandom together, and form an unlikely friendship along the way.”
The original BL Metamorphosis manga, created by Kaori Tsurutani, made its debut in 2017 and ran until 2020.
