A new school year is starting in Japan, and freshmen filing in to Tama Art University got to see something they probably didn’t expect: the Pokémon Arceus!
Well, okay, it’s not really Arceus. It’s two people in suits designed to look like Arceus. One of them goes by @wareketsu on Twitter and was happy to show off this creative outfit and congratulate all the first year students.

People walking by also had to take photos of the unusual sight.

And what did the school think of this dress-up happening at a place of learning rather than an anime convention or Halloween? They weren’t embarrassed by it at all – in fact, the school even tweeted about it, along with their opening ceremony!

It may have helped that this is an art school, so being artistic and different would probably get more encouragement here than some other schools.
Why Arceus? It could be a reference to the new game Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This is the official product description for it:
“Get ready for a new kind of grand, Pokémon adventure in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a brand new game from Game Freak that blends action and exploration with the RPG roots of the Pokémon series. Explore natural expanses to catch Pokémon by learning their behavior, sneaking up, and throwing a well-aimed Poké Ball. You can also toss the Poké Ball containing your ally Pokémon near a wild Pokémon to seamlessly enter battle. This new angle on Pokémon gameplay will deliver an immersive, personal experience brought to life by both Pokémon and humans.”
What would you think if someone dressed up like this to greet you at school?
