spy x family

The long-awaited SPY X FAMILY anime adaptation is finally here! It debuted in Japan this past Saturday, April 9, at 11 at night, and is streaming on Crunchyroll. Early reports say that the first episode got a 3.1% rating and that it trended on Japanese Twitter. This rating is especially good for its late night time slot.

Some of the related words and terms that trended on Japanese Twitter are “Anya,” “Yor-san,” and “Loid” and, of course, “SPY_FAMILY.”

The anime is being made at Wit Studio and CloverWorks, with Kazuhiro Furuhashi of Rurouni Kenshin, Mobile Suit Gundam UC, and Getbackers working as the director. The task of character design goes to Kazuaki Shimada of The Promised Neverland. The music is being produced by [K]NoW_NAME of Fairy gone and Dorohedoro.

The first episode is called “OPERATION STRIX” and Crunchyroll gave this description of it:

“Twilight is an agent that works for WISE, Westalis’s intelligence agency, and he is tasked with investigating Desmond, who is in Ostania and planning to start a war. Twilight disguises himself as the psychiatrist Loid Forger and adopts a girl named Anya so that he can enroll her into the prestigious Eden College to get closer to his target. The original manga is written by Tatsuya Endo and is available in English through VIZ Media and MANGA Plus. VIZ gave this description of the series:

“Master spy Twilight is the best at what he does when it comes to going undercover on dangerous missions in the name of a better world. But when he receives the ultimate impossible assignment—get married and have a kid—he may finally be in over his head!

Not one to depend on others, Twilight has his work cut out for him procuring both a wife and a child for his mission to infiltrate an elite private school. What he doesn’t know is that the wife he’s chosen is an assassin and the child he’s adopted is a telepath!”
