First there was Shin Godzilla, then the upcoming Shin Ultraman, but Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno isn’t stopping there. Shin Kamen Rider was previously announced for a March 2023 premiere, and the first footage has Anno going for pure nostalgia with a dead-on recreation of the original 1971 tokusatsu series’ opening.

In the leads for the film we have Sosuke Ikematsu (The Last Samurai) as Kamen Rider Takeshi Hongo alongside Minami Hamabe (Menma in the live-action Anohana drama) as Ruriko Midorikawa. Check them out below, followed by an amazing image of a full-page advertisement that’s currently making the rounds in Japanese newspapers, featuring none other than a young Anno himself dressed as Kamen Rider.
