Zettai Karen Children Author to Illustrate Yashahime Manga

yashahime season 2Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon—the anime followup to Rumiko Takahashi’s beloved Inuyasha—is getting a manga adaptation of its own, and a well-known author is behind it. Serialization kicks off in the November 2021 issue of Shogakukan’s Shonen Sunday S magazine, which hits shelves in Japan on September 25, and the artist handling it all is Ghost Sweeper Mikami and Zettai Karen Children manga author Takashi Shiina.

The official Yashahime Twitter account shared a special collaboration illustration—mixing characters from Zettai Karen Children in with the cast of Yashahime—to celebrate the news.

Takashi Shiina had the following to say about the adaptation:

“I’m Takashi Shiina, who asked to do a comicalization after learning it was a project about Inuyasha. Thank you very much. You don’t have to remember my name, so please just buy the manga assuming that Takahashi-sensei herself drew it!”

Rumiko Takahashi commented, as well:

“I thought it was a joke, but you’re really going to draw it for me, aren’t you? Thank you, Shiina-sensei. What a gorgeous comicalization! I’m really looking forward to seeing Shiina-sensei’s beautiful drawing of Sesshomaru. And I’m waiting for your new work!”

The second season of Yashahime is set to premiere this October. Crunchyroll and Funimation streamed the first as it aired, and here’s how Crunchyroll describes it:

Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.

Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister.

Takashi Shiina’s Zettai Karen Children manga recently concluded its 16-year run.
