The manga world received a shock in the early morning hours with the news that Berserk creator Kentaro Miura passed away on May 6. According to publisher Hakusensha’s announcement, Miura passed due to acute aortic dissection, and his family held a private service. Miura was 54 years old.
The renowned creator—whose influence on the wider pop culture world cannot be overstated—started Berserk with a one-shot in Monthly Comicomi magazine back in 1988. The full series kicked off in Monthly Animal House magazine in 1989, and Young Animal magazine would be its home until the current day.
The most recent collected release of Berserk was volume 40, which launched in Japan in 2018 and was released via Dark Horse Comics in North America the following year.
