Last month a St. Petersburg court banned Death Note, Tokyo Ghoul, and Inuyashiki in regards to websites where they were streaming. The anime were deemed bad for young people and the court officially said after watching some of this anime, “Every episode contains cruelty, murder, violence.”
The bans have continued, with Elfen Lied now joining the mix. According to Anime News Network, these anime were “banned specifically because the websites did not adhere to age restrictions for the titles.” It’s also been reported that Aki Sora is being investigated for a possible ban because it might break Russian law. Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev will be looking into this investigation. Naruto, Interspecies Reviewers and Terror in Resonance are other anime titles being looked at for possible bans.
