My Hero Academia Poster Used in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

my hero academia manga

My Hero Academia is one of the most successful manga/anime franchises in recent memory, and it’s gone far enough into the mainstream it was picked up by John Oliver as a stereotypical denotation to teenage boys.

In his new episode, Oliver talks about what everyone else has been talking about: the recent American presidential election. Talking about how some people were chanting, “Count the votes,” he joked that this is exactly what the ballot counters were doing, and compared it to a father telling a teenage boy to do something typical of teenage boys.

As Oliver describes this, there’s an image of a father outside of a son’s bedroom door, and a My Hero Academia the Movie -Heroes: Rising- poster is visible. It’s subtle and some people might miss it, but definitely there.

The scene in question can be found in this video, starting at 8:22. It can be seen for almost 15 seconds.
