Anime keeps on growing exponentially, and so does the popularity of streaming services like Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll got its start thirteen years ago, and a decade later, in early 2017, it had gotten more than a million subscribers.
But the numbers kept jumping after that. While it took ten years to reach a million subscribers, it only took a bit over a year for that number to double. Now, in 2020, Crunchyroll has declared it currently has more than three million subscribers. But there are also plenty of people who use Crunchyroll without officially subscribing—specifically, there are more than 70 million registered users. Let those numbers sink in.
What anime are doing the best? Crunchyroll additionally released their top streamers from April through June this year, and they’re pretty well situated in the shonen category: Black Clover, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Haikyu!!, Hunter x Hunter, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, My Hero Academia, Naruto Shippūden, One Piece, and Tower of God.
Do you use Crunchyroll or another streaming service? How long do you think before they hit four million subscribers?
