Ever wondered how Japanese kids spend their hard-earned allowance? So did Bandai, and for good reason: they make stuff they hope kids will buy. Bandai surveyed 900 children in elementary and middle school, and discovered the top 10 categories sucking up those precious yen.

The lists change a bit when you separate the elementary school and middle school students. In that case, you get:

It seems that for both those in elementary and middle school, manga is the third most important thing out there. By the way, Bandai found that the average allowance was roughly 2,000 yen, or about 18 bucks, per month, meaning something like manga or a movie ticket is a pretty big investment! No wonder candy/junk food takes the top spot.
