Promare, the new flick from the folks behind Kill la Kill, has topped 1 billion yen at the Japanese box office: no mean feat for an original anime film.
Now fans have a reason to go see the film again. From August 23 to the end of September, theatrical screenings in Japan will include 20 minutes of new footage.
The footage will take the form of two prequel shorts, each 10 minutes a piece, revolving around main characters Galo and Lio in the days before the events of the main film.
Said main film will then play, making for 132 minutes of pure Promare action.
For now, the two shorts are reported to be limited to these five-odd weeks of theatrical screenings. Here’s hoping GKIDS, who are releasing the film Stateside, get a hold of the rights. You hear us, GKIDS?!

The first feature-length film from the acclaimed studio TRIGGER, creators of the hit series KILL la KILL and Little Witch Academia, and director Hiroyuki Imaishi (GURREN LAGANN, KILL la KILL), Promare uses a bold cel-shaded visual style to tell a blistering action-adventure story, and is the spiritual successor to many of director Imaishi’s former works.
Thirty years has passed since the appearance of Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves “Mad Burnish” appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team “Burning Rescue,” and Lio Fotia, the leader of “Mad Burnish” begins.
